Color is turquoise's prime virtue. Depending on it's iron content, it can be greenish blue, bluish green or yellowish green. The desirable bluer shades are caused by greater amounts of copper and tend to higher value. Turquoise is relatively soft and poros and not stable against substances like cosmetics and heat. To make Turquoise more stable, most stones are treated in melted wax.
Turquoise is the traditional birthstone for December and the gem of the 11th anniversary.
