The most common cutting style for moonstone is the oval cabochon. The typical sheen, called "chatoyancy" should be centered on the top of the cabochon and should be seen easily fro a wide range of viewing angles. Some nearly colorless, transparent to semitransparent moonstones also show strong asterism. The major sources for moonstones are South-India and Sri Lanka.
